Rookie BlueTelevision has proved itself that just because it is summer it doesn't have to give up on creativity. Okay Rookie Blue isn't the most creative of shows. It is pretty much Grey's Anatomy in cop uniforms but the story lines are fun, the cast is cute (especially Eric Johnson as the detective slash love interest though I am worried they are going to make him like a serial killer or something worse like a Scientologist) and we haven't had a good cop show in a while (and I mean like actual cops and not those CSI people who do nothing but look for semen all day). The show has already been renewed for a second season on ABC. Another stand-out is ABC Family's Huge. It is quite a contrasting show to the other summer hit on that channel, Pretty Little Liars, pretty much because everyone is overweight or plus-sized to be politically correct. Anyway, the show takes place at a weight loss camp which sortuv becomes a parallel universe for kids who are usually bullied and have low self esteem because here the hottest girl at the camp (Haley Hasselhoff, daughter of David) is still a plus-size model (who is lusted after by the hot counselor played by Zander Eckhouse). Nikki Blonsky is refreshing as a camper who reminds us every episode that she marches to the beat of a different drummer and doesn't understand why she should be forced to hate her body. It has some extremely poignant moments as so many of the kids have such low self esteem but it is also very sweet and a little funny at times and compared to Pretty Little Liars this looks like God damn Chekov.HUGE on ABC Family
